Giving birth in Thailand: where to deliver in Pattaya, costs and documents
Many families give birth in Thailand and are very happy with it: spacious rooms, attentive staff, dad by your side, and all for noticeably less than private clinics in Europe. We gathered what delivery costs in Bangkok and Pattaya, what the package includes, how insurance works and which documents the baby needs after birth.

In short
- A delivery package at major Bangkok private hospitals for 2026 costs 110,000 – 152,000 ฿; public hospitals, by reviews, are several times cheaper.
- Insurance covers childbirth only if bought in advance: the waiting period is usually 10 – 12 months.
- The Thai birth certificate is issued within 15 days. A child of foreign parents does not get Thai citizenship.
Why families give birth in Thailand
- Private hospitals of international standard, many JCI-accredited.
- Comfort: a private room, a sofa for dad, open visiting, staff help with the baby.
- Clear packages: the price includes the stay, doctors, supplies and the baby's first vaccinations.
- Interpreters: large Pattaya hospitals have Russian-speaking staff.

Families39; experience in Pattaya
Prices from families' accounts, each with its year:
- Bangkok Hospital, 2023: a 3-day caesarean package 88,000 ฿, pregnancy care over 9 months about 72,000 ฿.
- Bangkok, 2023: natural birth 104,000 ฿ for 3 days, a Russian-speaking doula from 35,000 ฿.
- Public hospital in Sriracha, 2023: a caesarean with all nights about 33,000 ฿, half refunded through the husband's Thai social security.
- Jomtien Hospital, 2025: pregnancy care 55,000 – 58,000 ฿, delivery from 49,000 ฿ on the hospital's price list.
Mothers advise discussing your birth plan with the doctor early: attitudes to natural birth and doulas differ between hospitals. And keep money in reserve beyond the package in case the baby needs extra care.
Pregnancy care
Per 2025 reviews:
- a doctor's visit 2,500 – 3,000 ฿, with tests 5,000 – 6,000 ฿;
- the NIPT screening test with consultation 20,000 – 27,000 ฿;
- full pregnancy care 55,000 – 72,000 ฿ depending on the hospital.

Insurance
- Waiting period for maternity at most insurers is 10 – 12 months, at some longer. A pregnancy that starts earlier is not covered.
- You cannot buy maternity cover once pregnant.
- Limits: family policies with a maternity option cover delivery up to, for example, 200,000 – 300,000 ฿.
- If you work officially, Thai social security may refund part of the bill.

The baby39;s documents
- Hospital certificate
The hospital issues a birth notification and usually helps with paperwork.
- Thai birth certificate
Issued at the district office (amphoe) within 15 days of birth. Bring the hospital certificate and both parents' passports.
- Legalisation
Thailand is not party to the Apostille Convention, so the certificate is translated and legalised at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then at your country's consulate.
- Registration with your consulate
Register the birth with your embassy to get the baby's citizenship and passport. Russian citizens register in person within a month of birth.
For Russian citizens the consular procedures are covered in Russian consular services in Thailand.
Citizenship and the baby39;s visa
- Thai citizenship is granted at birth only if at least one parent is a Thai national. A child of foreigners born in Thailand does not become Thai.
- Your citizenship usually passes to the child under your home country's law.
- The baby's visa is a dependant visa linked to the parents' visa. The procedure depends on your visa, so check with Chonburi immigration in Jomtien right after the birth.
Tips
- Choose a hospital and doctor early, by mid-pregnancy.
- Ask what the package includes and what a switch to caesarean costs.
- Buy insurance with a maternity option at least a year ahead.
- Book the consulate before the birth and check the spelling of the baby's name.
